We Regret To Announce Delays

May 18, 2010

From my good friends at Ulster Bank

Under the European Communities (Payment Services) Regulations 2009, which came into force on 1st Nov 2009, the Bank must ensure that payments to Ulster Bank credit cards via Ulster Bank Anytime Banking and Telephony must be given same day value and be made available immediately for withdrawal.

Ulster Bank is currently unable to provide this service but you will be able to access these funds three business days after the transaction date.

Unable? Un-able? Well, if you say so, old chap.  But still, one has to wonder.  Can’t push the beads any faster on the abacus? New Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food restrictions on the use of carrier pigeons? Morse code wallahs on a work-to-rule?

“We know we are supposed to do it but we refuse so we can use your money and deny it from you.” I hate banks. Hate them hate them hate them. At least in Europe, we’re spared the ATM fees that were killing me in the US.
